You can show your support for our troops on Fridays by wearing red - any red.  You don't have to be dripping in it, a red shirt is a nice touch, but it might be a red hat, a red pin, etc.

There are also Red (Remember Everyone Deployed) Rallies that you are always more than welcome to attend.

Want us to let people know about an upcoming Red Friday Rally? Want to share your Red Friday memories?  Send us your flyers and photos, be sure to add any info, like date/location.

We would be happy to post flyers for other troop support events as well.

Send to: mchargs@xcelco.on.ca

Chamber honours award winners at annual gala

Posted By TINA PEPLINSKIE, STAFF WRITER

Red Friday Ladies Karen Boire and Lisa Miller of Petawawa were honoured with the Citizen of the Year award. Nearly three years ago they began Red Fridays, a nationally-recognized movement aimed at creating a very visible show of support for our Canadian Troops by wearing red clothing every Friday.

The movement has earned them recognition from Gen. Rick Hillier, Gen. Walter Natynczyk, the Department of National Defence and Gov. Gen. Michaelle Jean.

"It's been a lot of work, but it's definitely worth it," Ms. Boire said after accepting the award on behalf of Ms. Miller who could not attend the gala because of a family emergency. "It means so much to us that people have picked up on what we are trying to do and supported us."

October 2nd. 2009

red-friday-rally

Located moments away from downtown, Ottawa‚s Chinatown is a vibrant business and residential area offering local dinning, shopping and entertainment. We have merchants from all over the world including Chinese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, India, Filipino, Spanish, Lebanese, French and Middle Eastern, each contributing their unique culture, foods, and products to our exciting urban village in the heart of the Canada‚s multicultural capital.

On October 3& 4 2009, the FestivAsia organized by the Ottawa Chinatown will draw visitors from all over into Chinatown for a cultural celebration. Food, games, arts, ethnic performance and the largest Asian performing parade are on the menu. With great appreciation and gratitude for our Canadian troops and to show the support from our community, we would like to kick off our Festival by having a Red Friday event on Oct 2 in Chinatown in parthership with the Canadia Forces & the ORIGINAL Red Friday Ladies, Karen and Lisa. Special guests are to include Canada‚s Navy Commander Vice-Admiral Dean McFadden.

A student Choir from the Glashan Public School will perform at this Rally.

Welcome all to join us to honour our serving men and women (past and present) and their families!
